Matisse and Rodin exhibition in Nice in 2009

An exceptional exhibition - Matisse-Rodin: a meeting of two masters of modern art - will open with a first act in Nice from 12 June to 23 September 2009, the second scheduled at the Rodin Museum in Paris from 15 October 2009 to 15 February 2010.

The Matisse Museum and the Fine Arts Museum of Nice, along with the Rodin Museum in Paris are organizing an exhibition around the works of Matisse and Rodin.
In Nice, it will be shown at the Matisse Museum from 12 June to 23 September 2009, at the same time as an exhibition of photographs on Rodin, his works and his studio at the Fine Arts Museum.
In Paris, the Rodin Museum will host the exhibition from 15 October 2009 to 15 February 2010.

The sculptures of Henri Matisse, most of which are at the Museum in Nice, can be related to the art of Rodin in both their sculpted and their graphic expression.

The work of these two masters of the 19th and 20th centuries is distinctive and recognizable in comparison with all others. The meeting of the man who dominated sculpture in its monumentality and the man who reigned supreme over drawing through graphics and colour reveals their common interest in an artistic expression other than that for which they are recognized: the sculptor Rodin makes drawings, the painter Matisse sculpts.
