It is in the very artistic setting of the ‘Suite Elle Décoration’, recently designed by Christian Lacroix at La Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris, that the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Nice greeted nearly 100 professionals from the worlds of event organizing and business tourism at the end of last May.

For the presentation of the ‘Nice Convention Bureau’ and its brochure, Rudy Salles, deputy mayor in charge of tourism and international relations, vice-president of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Nice, vice-president of the CANCA conurbation and vice-president of the National Assembly, who explained the main lines for development, in particular of business tourism for the coming months and years.

The Acropolis Convention Centre will soon be renovated by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. Construction of a prestige venue overlooking the sea is planned in the city centre to accommodate convention goers; it aims to be a showcase on Nice as a destination for hosting congresses. An international exhibition centre of 50 to 60,000m² is planned near the airport (in the Plaine de Var) that should have a capacity of 40,000 people.

There is a clear will to place Nice in top position in tourism and make it a Pole of Competence.
