Mediterranean underwater life is full of little known or unexpected riches. Did you know that just off the Mediterranean coast whales, pilot whales, sperm-whales, blue and white dolphins live in their natural habitat ? Seeing these sea mammals appear between two waves is always a moment of extraordinary emotion only equalled by the ballet of dolphins in the wake of a boat.

An international marine reserve for sea-mammals in the Mediterranean has recently been created via an agreement signed by France, the Principality of Monaco and Italy. The protected zone stretches over 90 000 km2, forming a triangle which encompasses the islands of Corsica and Sardinia : the Ligurian sea offers an endless reservoir of food for the mammals. This agreement will enable scientists to count and protect these animals, whose twenty or so species (out of 78 in the world) are present in the Mediterranean : direct mortality factors will be reduced, navigation channels diverted, marine pollution reduced and the public will be better informed on methods of preserving the environment. Nice actively participates in these measures, in an attempt to clean up the Mediterranean and allow all marine species so evolve without danger.

Cruises can be organised from early June to the end of September to let your clients discover the fascinating show of this Mediterranean living free. These excursions in now way disturb the mammals and are conducted in full respect of the environment.
