Flowers from the hillside

Nice and the French Riviera are also renowned for their flower production. Numerous varieties of mimosas and carnations grow alongside snapdragons or rose beds.

The following farms welcome groups or individuals to present their production. These attractive visits are a good way to discover local produce and the manufacture methods of certain traditional products.

Discovery of the varieties of carnations and snapdragons grown in the greenhouses on the hills of Nice. After the tour, wine-tasting (wines of bellet) and sampling of local specialities (pissaladière and olives). The ladies receive the gift of a nice carnation !

The Mezzanotti estate is located on the heights of Nice and enjoys a panoramic view over the city. 30 varieties of carnations are grown there in 6 000 sq. m of greenhouses.

Guided visit (history and demonstration of grafting techniques) of the May-rose fields and initation to picking techniques. Visits from May to June (flowering season), every day from 2pm to 5 pm (reservation required).

Located in the Grasse area, this estate has produces May roses and jasmine for 3 generations, on the hillside bathed in Mediterranean sun-light. Specialities : natural rose water, distilled on site and jams.

Founded in 1897, the flower market is one of the most picturesque and exceptional markets in France. Today, there are about a hundred stalls of green plants, bouquets an cut flowers. You can also sample local specialities : socca, pissaladière, courgette blossom fritters, etc .
